Mor Kedi is one of the longest-standing gay café bars in Istanbul, having operated for nearly two decades. It’s a place that tends to get busy before other gay bars and clubs in the city. While they may open earlier, you’ll typically find people there from 6 PM until around midnight. The clientele consists mainly of younger gay men, and occasionally bears, but LGBT individuals of all ages and styles are warmly welcomed. In August 2021, they relocated to a new address, where there was another gay café before.

"It’s a small gay café on the third floor of a building. The people in attendance seemed nice. Service was good, but food selection limited.

"Terrific evening cafe bar with friendly service and enthusiastic gay customers. Inexpensive - 300 TL (apprx $7) for a pint of beer. Photos on Google show the atmosphere. Turkish party music rather than gay classics. From street level follow the rainbow stairs up three levels (past Thai restaurant on first level then two more). Will be back" (Google / Nov 2025)

"It was a great time; we were welcomed like friends. We arrived at 10 pm and left at 11 pm. The place is discreet and reminds me of Parisian gay bars from the 80s, where discretion and friendliness were rare... On our way down the stairs, we passed eight very nice guys coming up... too bad we missed their festive atmosphere. For our next trip to Istanbul, we will definitely return to this bar" (Google / Dec 2025)

"I can't understand some of the previous reviews which are often incorrect or don't appreciate the difficulties in operating a Gay venue in Turkey. I have been in Istanbul for over a week and been to Mor Kedi most nights. The price for a beer has been the same every time 300TL (apprx $8). The staff and locals are very friendly - even getting me up to dance with them last night. A great place to relax when not busy and great when busy - a joy to watch the traditional Kurdish dancing. Forget about what you expect from a Gay bar in your own country and just enjoy the place!!" (Google / May 2025)

"We went at 1 pm on a Monday just to see it. So not really fair to review as we were the only people. The person there was nice and friendly , good English. I would like to have tried to visit when more people around. Reminded me of LGBTQ+ venues in the uk 30 years ago - a bit hidden. But we wanted to show support which is why we went.

"Fun little bar/cafe. Kinda confusing to get there. Go up 2 floors after you pass the restaurant. Keep following the pride stairs. The is no “bar” more a cafe set up. The waiters were very nice and attentive. The food was surprising really good . We split the curry chicken and fries and it filled us both up (waiter suggested to share)."
