Fethiye is a town located at the junction of Aegean &
Mediterranean seas. Modern day Fethiye is built on the
ancient city of Telmessos, ruins of which can be seen in
the city. It is one of Turkey's well-known tourist
destinations and is especially busy during the summer
season.
Unfortunately there aren’t any gay bars or clubs
in Fethiye despite it being known as a very liberal
holiday town, also famous with considerable residents
coming from European countries, especially from the
United Kingdom. Most of the bars would be friendly, but
we could comfortably recommend the following venues.
Attention: These are not officially gay / gay
friendly venues!
Deep Blue Bar, Fethiye
Zilly Bar, Fethiye
Talk of The Town, Oludeniz (drag

Buzz Beach Bar, Oludeniz

Cruising spots are not as crowded as they used to be
before the Internet era, especially after mobile apps
became popular. Although there may still be some gay men
in these places, usually after dark; it is advisable to
be a little cautious especially in parks and secluded
beaches. It is recommended that you do not carry very
valuable items or large amounts of money with you, just
in case. Here are some possible cruising areas and
beaches in Fethiye:
Ugur Mumcu Park - Public park in downtown Fethiye.
Şehitler Anıtı - Vicinity of the monument by the
waterfront.
Marina - Waterfront between marina and departure
point of the tour boats
Paspatur - The main street at this shopping area.

Nowadays,
Hornet is the most popular dating app among the
LGBTQ+ community in Turkey, especially since Grindr
was banned for not filtering pornographic content.
Today, almost every Turkish gay man, along with many
transgender individuals and bisexual men can be
found on Hornet. Other alternatives include
Taimi,
Planet Romeo and Tinder. As expected,
Growlr and
Scruff are the preferred apps for the Turkish
'bear' community.
As with anywhere else in the world, it is wise
to be cautious when meeting people through these
apps. You may also encounter many rent boys on these
gay dating platforms.

There is not any distinctively gay-friendly beach in and
around Fethiye town, but it is more likely to see gay
men in the following beaches.
Çalış Beach - Public beach in
Çalış, 7
km from downtown Fethiye.
Surf Beach - Relatively isolated part of Çalış
beach, further from the center.
Butterfly Valley - Worldwide famous beach, 20 km
from Fethiye
There are no beaches very suitable for swimming in the
heart of Fethiye. The nearest beach to the center is
Çalış Beach (Çalış Plajı), which stretches west for over
4 km (2.5 miles) and is lined with hotels, restaurants,
cafés, and bars. It features coarse sand at the end
closest to town, turning into shingle at the far end;
this quieter area is where gay travelers occasionally
gather. However, the best beach in the region is located
15 km (10 miles) away at the beautiful
Ölüdeniz
(Blue Lagoon),
a stunning expanse of shimmering blue water.
Butterfly Valley (Kelebekler Vadisi) is perhaps the most
popular destination for local and international gay
visitors in the Fethiye region. While it is primarily a
camping area popular with backpackers, more comfortable
bungalow-style accommodations are also available. For
day trips, you can join a boat tour or take a shuttle
boat from Ölüdeniz. Alternatively, you can take a
minibus toward Kabak Bay and get off at the top of the
valley. From there, it is a challenging 30-minute trek
down to the beach. Keep in mind that hiking back up is
significantly harder, especially in the mid-summer heat.
Although it is further away,
Patara Beach (technically
in Antalya) is a site of incomparable beauty with its
white sands and unique dunes. It is best to dedicate a
full day to Patara if traveling from Fethiye. You will
typically need to change buses in Kınık, which is within
walking distance of the ancient
Lycian city of Xanthos.
After exploring the ruins, you can take a minibus from
Kınık to Patara. Don't miss the well-preserved ruins of
ancient Patara, located about 1 km from the shore. It is
recommended to get off the minibus at the archaeological
site and walk to the beach from there.
Fethiye’s numerous bays are also ideal for picnicking
and camping. Other popular spots in the area include
Belceğiz, Gemiler Island, Kıdrak (often confused with
Koturumsu), Katrancı Bay, Günlüklü, and Göcek. Most of
these can be visited via the
affordable boat trips that depart frequently from
the Fethiye town center.
