Marmaris is a very popular summer holiday destination and resort town in Turkey.
It is situated on the Mediterranean coast, in the southwestern region of the
Mugla Province. Beautiful coastline, friendly people, good fresh foods and
delicious local wines, that could easily compete against many European
vineyards. The summer is long and good weather is virtually guaranteed between
May and as late as the end of October. Marmaris has a liberal and modern vibe
just as in most summer resorts along the Mediterranean coast of Turkey, making
it a great holiday choice for gay men. However, there are no venues that cater
exclusively to gay people in town.
Unfortunately, there are no exclusively gay bars or
clubs in Marmaris, but we could comfortably recommend
the following places for their liberal atmosphere. Here
are some of the popular regular (none-gay) bars
in Marmaris with Google Maps links.
Club
Areena - This club
had been recommended as gay friendly venue in previous years, but it is just
like many other clubs in the bar street nowadays.
Talk of the
Town - They have been orginizing drag shows in Marmaris and Fethiye for many
years.
Roxy's Show
Bar - Another venue is well known for drag shows.
Cheers
Night Club - Another "Talk of the Town" drag venue.
Galleon Club
Back Garden Club
Black Pool Bar
Always Dance Bar
Black Mirror Bar
Deniz Cafe & Restaurant
Captain's Bar & Restaurant
The Champagne Bar Restaurant (Icmeler)

Cruising spots are not as crowded as they once used to be since the Internet era, especially after mobile apps became popular. There may still be some people in these places, usually after it gets dark. In general, the cruising areas - especially parks and secluded beaches are where gay men should be a little cautious. Just in case, do not carry very valuable things and a lot of money on you. These are possible cruising areas.
Yat Limanı
- The waterfront along the yacht marina at night.
Deniz Feneri - Light house and waterbreak near the yacht marina.
Barlar Sokağı (39 sk) - Bar street of Marmaris.
Marmaris Park - The park at the town center by
the seafront.
Uzunyalı Public Beach

There are no gay beaches in Marmaris. The downtown beach
Uzunyali (long beach) is possibly where most Turkish gay
tourists would be going for cruising. Is has dark
volcanic sand which is flanked by a wide promenade. Many
resorts have private beaches which can be enjoyed by the
guests staying in the hotel. The beaches in Marmaris, in
most of the resort hotels, are covered with coarse black
sand.
There are two quieter beaches nearby accessible by dolmus minibuses or water
taxi - Icmeler and Turunc beaches. Icmeler is a smaller resort within the
boundaries of Marmaris district. Its beach is a mix of sand and shingle, but is
far longer, yellower and less crowded. Turunc is 20 km away by land and 15 miles
away by sea. It can be reached in half an hour using the winding asphalt road
crossing the forest in Icmeler. Once a small fishing village, now it
accommodated many facilities including cafes, restaurants, hotels and pensions.
Turunc is surrounded by high hills planted with pine trees all over.
For a truly beautiful local beach, head offshore to
Cleopatra's Beach
Cleopatra's Beach on Island (Sedir Island), where you can
most easily go with daily boat tours departing from
downtown Marmaris. Legend has it that this island was
given to Cleopatra as a present by Mark Anthony and he
imported the fine white sand to the island from Egyptian
shores in order to show his love to Cleopatra, who
refused to step on any place other than Egyptian land.
Sedir Island is the site of an ancient Roman resort
town. Existing ruins include an enormous amphitheater
and old city wall. Yhe best way to go. Sedir Island can
best be reached y daily boat trips from downtown
Marmaris. If you have a car, you need to drive to
Camlik from where there are regular boats, although
they are not very frequent.
